Five Finger Death Punch's new album, Legacy, is out now. The record marks the Las Vegas metal outfit's 10th studio effort, and guitarist Zoltan Bathory wanted it to reflect that career milestone.
"The strongest aspect of the band and what we're really good at, we compiled those things onto this record," Bathory tells ABC Audio. "That's what we did, that's why we named it Legacy."
He adds, "If you ask me, like, 'Hey, give me one album that represents Five Finger Death Punch the best,' I would give you this one, for sure."
In addition to being sonically representative of the Death Punch discography, Legacy reflects the 20-year and 10-album journey the band members have been on to reach this point in the lyrics. Take lead single "Eye of the Storm," which gave the band their 18th #1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.
"I think that's a perfect explanation [of] how it feels to be in this band," Bathory says of "Eye of the Storm."
Legacy also ends in perhaps the most Five Finger Death Punch way possible with the song "Scapegoat," which closes with frontman Ivan Moody plainly saying, "F*** you."
To Bathory, that song and that moment signals that, after two decades and 10 albums, Five Finger Death Punch isn't slowing down anytime soon.
"If you were hoping that it's over, it isn't," he laughs.
Five Finger Death Punch is currently touring the U.S. in support of Legacy into October.
