Roger Waters of Pink Floyd brought his Us + Them Tour to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for 3 epic nights on August 8th, 9th , and 11th. I had the pleasure of seeing 2 shows on the 9th and 11th, both nights equally blew me away. I also got to see the show from 2 different views, straight on and from the side which was like seeing to different shows.
The show was split into 2 sets, with a 20 minute intermission. Set 1 featured Floyd classics One of These Days, Time, Wish You Were Here, and Another Brick in the Wall to name a few, which included children from the Philly area complete with Resist tshirts on. Set 1 also included 4 songs from Waters new record, Is This the Life We Really Want, which fit pretty good with Floyd classics. The light show along with the giant screen behind the stage brought the show and songs to life unlike any show that's out there right now. That was nothing compared to Set 2...
Set 2 began with giant screens dividing the Wells Fargo in half, complete with smoke stacks and the first sighting of the pig. Set 2 began with Dogs that was followed by the classic Pigs. It's no secret that Roger Waters is no Trump supporter, and he made sure everyone in the Wells Fargo Center was aware of that with plenty of Trump, Trump cartoons, and Trump quotes flashing on the screens. Then there was the giant Pig floating throughout the arena, with the current President sporting two black eyes. The set included one new song, Smell The Roses, which sounds like a Pink Floyd classic, along with Floyd hits Money, Us and Them, Brain Damage (which included an amazing Dark Side of the Moon light show), and the closer Comfortably Numb, which was inspired by an evening Waters spent at the Spectrum right here in Philadelphia.
Waters even chatted about flying into Philly this week listening to a Pink Floyd show from 1970 at the Electric Factory. His backing band is second to none. Tight musically and vocally.
From the songs to light show to the the screen show (regardless of your political views), you left the Wells Fargo in amazement and glad you made the trip to the dark side of the moon with the animals as we scaled the wall one more time!
