Metallica & Volbeat Rock Lincoln Financial Field
Metallica brought their Wordwired Tour to Philly Friday night. Volbeat got to handle opening duties alone, as Avenged Sevenfold had to cancel the morning of do to a birth within the band. Volbeat didn't disappoint. Hitting the stage around 7p with The Devil's Bleeding Crown and ripped through an hour set that included favorites like Lola Montez, The Hangman's Body Count, Seal The Deal, and their latest single Black Rose. The half full Linc, still 25,000 strong at the time, had the crowd singing and rocking out throughout their entire set.
Before Volbeat and between set changes, Mix Master Mike of Beastie Boys fame, entertained the crowd with remixed rock and metal tunes.
Now for the Mighty Metallica. A packed stadium lost their minds as the lights went out anticipating the metal legends taking the stage. A one two punch from their latest record Hardwired and Atlas Rise kicked the evening off, followed by faves For Whom The Bell Tolls and Creeping Death. Metallica continued with cuts from Hardwired To Self Destruct record like Moth Into Flame, Halo On Fire, and their latest single Now That We're Dead. The Black album filled the set with The Unforgiven, Sad, Roam, and closers Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman. Old school Metallica was spread throughout the set with One, Puppets, Motorbreath, Fade to Black, and Seek n Destroy. The encore kicked off with a killer performance of Battery. An amazing set. You'll never get everything you want in one night at a Metallica show, but I gotta say, they didn't disappoint. The stage setup was insane. 5 giant screens that reach the top of the stadium, lots of fire, the snake pit in the middle, lasers, and of course more fire!
Amazing evening. A killer WMGM Party Bus with the best listeners in the business as well.
