A bunch of MGM artists have some new music. Here's my take on them...
Linkin Park – Heavy, taken from One More Light’, in stores May 19th
Well, this isn’t your “One Step Closer” Linkin Park. Listen, I’m all for a band experimenting and trying new styles. But this is an extreme move. The female voice on this track is Kiara Saulters, best known for hip hop inspired, electro R&B and records under the name Kiiara. They even teamed up with a pop songwriter named Emily Wright, known for working with Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, and Flo Rida. Good chance this is going to be a Top 40 hit. Good for Linkin Park, clearly the direction they are going for. For old school Linkin Park fans or even the casual LP fan from their radio songs, I can’t see this sitting well with them. I’m sure many are curious what the rest of the record will sound like.
Incubus – Nimble Bastard, taken from “8”, in stores Spring 2017
I was sold with just one listen. I like when Incubus Rocks out. Dig it when they slow it down or go acoustic as well, but it’s refreshing to see a Rock band actually Rock out. “Nimble Bastard” should play well when performed live, which in my opinion is where Incubus shines the brightest. I expect this song to climb the Rock charts quickly and after a second listen look forward to hearing the rest of the new record.
Bush – Mad Love, taken from Black and White Rainbows, in stores March 10th
I instantly liked Bush when they burst onto the scene with Sixteen Stone back in 1994. Equally liked Razorblade Suitcase in 1997. From there, it’s hit or miss with them. I’m sure Gavin might be feeling a little sappy with the loss of Gwen, which might explain “Mad Love”. I’m sure ladies will swoon as Gavin pours out his heart. Much more of a fan when Bush is Rocking out. They nailed the ballad with “Glycerine”, but after that I prefer Bush to stick to its strength… straight forward Rock songs. “Mad Love” is average at best for me. Hopefully, a true Rock song will follow as the second single.
Papa Roach – Help, taken from their new record to released later in 2017
Hard to believe Papa Roach hit it big nearly 17 years ago with “Last Resort”. 17 years later and countless hit songs and platinum records, Papa Roach is still at it with a new song called “Help”. If you like what Papa Roach has been doing for the last decade or so, then “Help” will be right up your alley. Catchy, three minute rock song with driving guitars. Papa Roach is known for their intense live shows and this new track will fit in the set nicely.
