CELEBRITY GOSSIP

ANGELINA JOLIE PUSHES FOR BETTER TREATMENT OF REFUGEES: Actress and activist Angelina Jolie is bringing attention to the plight of women and children in conflict zones around the world. Speaking in Kenya to mark World Refugee Day, she visited a training center and discussed preventing sexual violence. "The reality is that women and girls as well as boys and men can still be raped with near-total impunity in conflict zones around the world, and there are still appalling cases of rape and mistreatment of vulnerable women, children and men by peacekeepers sent to protect them," she said. She went on to say that the way refugees are treated – and ensuring that treatment is as just as possible – is a measure of our humanity. COURTNEY COX REGRETS NIPS AND TUCKS: Courtney Cox, 53, admitted that Hollywood’s obsession with staying young led her to make some bad choices. "I grew up thinking that appearance was the most important thing. That’s kind of sad because it got me in trouble. I was trying so hard to keep up, and I actually made things worse," she told NewBeauty in a wide-ranging interview. "And it’s worse in pictures than in real life," Cox said. "I have one friend who was like, ‘Whoa, no more!’ I thought, I haven’t done anything in six months. I didn’t realize." She adds that she has embraced her "smile lines" and has decided that "filters are not my friend." Do you prefer the natural look? IS GAL GADOT EARNING LESS THAN HER MALE COUNTERPARTS? The Internet was abuzz earlier this week with people bemoaning what they say is a gaping gender wage-gap in Hollywood. News broke that Gal Gadot earned $300,000 in Wonder Woman while the movie itself cleared more than $500 million at the box office. Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill, meanwhile, earned $14 million for a less-lucrative and well-received film, outlets report. But did Gadot really make 46 times less than Cavill? As Vanity Fair points out, Gadot’s base salary was $300,000, but she will likely be earning bonuses once the box office receipts are tallied. Furthermore, most actors launch a franchise with a low base and then work their way up, as Chris Evans has done. Evans also reportedly pulled in $300,000 for the first Captain America film. Do you think this is a case of gender gap or has this story been taken out of context? LUCY HALE APOLOGIZES FOR SAYING SHE USED TO LOOK ‘FAT’: Lucy Hale posted a throwback pic of herself on Instagram to celebrate Father’s Day, but it didn’t go exactly as planned. Hale has been under fire over a comment in which she referred to herself as "fat" with critics claiming fat-shaming is wrong … even if you’re just talking about yourself. She later disabled comments on her Instagram photo and took to Twitter to apologize, writing in part: "Sometimes I forget that people are watching everything I do and I say things I don't mean. I'm extremely sorry if my comment about my weight offended anyone." PRINCE PHILIP HOSPITALIZED IN LONDON: Prince Philip was hospitalized to treat an infection "arising from a pre-existing condition," Buckingham Palace reported Wednesday. "Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot," Buckingham Palace said, adding, "Her Majesty is being kept informed and will attend Royal Ascot as planned this afternoon." Philip, 96, recently said he was retiring from public events, but plans to complete pre-scheduled engagements through August.

TREVOR NOAH SPEAKS OUT ABOUT RACIST ENCOUNTERS WITH POLICE

Trevor Noah is opening up about the encounters he has had with police officers in America, and points out that they are symptoms of a larger problem. Noah used the recent Philando Castile verdict as a jumping off point. Castile had been pulled over 49 times before police shot and killed him in 2016. The officer who shot him was acquitted of all charges. The South African-born comedian and host of The Daily Show said that in the six years he has been in the U.S., police have stopped him "8 to 10 times." Discussing the places he has been stopped, he mentioned his car, rental cars, a car with rims, a car with no rims and even a Tesla. "I don’t know what silent crime I’m on my way to commit, but I’ve been stopped in a Tesla," he said. He adds that his strategy is to throw his arms out of the window. "I look so stupid when you see me," he said. "I would rather have the cops go, ‘You are weird.’ Every cop that comes to my window like, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ And then we go from there, then I’m like, ‘Alright, cool, but you saw where my hands are.'" Noah said the problem is pervasive and larger than what many people see as cut-and-dry racism. "It’s not racism like n—," he said. "It’s a very different thing."

KAT GRAHAM RESPONDS TO JADA PINKETT SMITH'S DISAPPOINTMENT IN 'ALL EYEZ ON ME'

Actress Kat Graham was caught off guard by Jada Pinkett-Smith’s criticism of her portrayal in the Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me. Pinkett-Smith made headlines when she all but called the biopic a bold-faced lie. She claimed that her life and relationship with Tupac was "reimagined." She commended Graham on her portrayal of her and said it wasn’t her fault. But overall, she called the film "hurtful" to watch. Many have assumed that the scenes were filmed with no counsel from Pinkett-Smith which led to the discrepancies. However, in an interview with E! News, Graham says she spoke with Pinkett-Smith on a couple of occasions and thought all was well. "When I first got the role, I reached out to Jada a year and a half ago… the point of reaching out to her, as well as the other producers on the film, was to insure the integrity of the story and the character," she says. "I even spoke to her last week and she had nothing but support." Despite all of the controversy and mixed reviews, All Eyez On Me had a solid showing at the box office on its opening weekend.
